I’m a Lake Tahoe based wedding and portrait photographer, and fan of unposed, giddy-in-love, melt-my-lenses-editorial-style moments … oh, and t-shirts and jeans.

These past years have sure tested our resiliency, grit, and ability to find the silver linings within the unpredictability each day seemed to bring. We had many reminders that the time we get with those we love is never to be taken for granted.
Danae is a cardiology PA and Bryce is an engineer with Santa Barbara County Fire, previously an air fireman with three medals of valor. As the California fire season raged on, he was gone more than he was home. There were only a few days that this family had together and they had hopes of capturing a few memories while they spent those days in their happy place, Lake Tahoe. Danae had sent me some screenshots of FaceTime calls between him and his kiddos, the closest they could get to being with Dad in those long months. My heart stopped, we had to make this session happen.
As a mom working around the clock to hold down the fort while her husband was doing the same from afar, these precious moments capture a time when they could forget feeling worn thin, touch home base again and fill the soul with the juices of what makes life so beautiful.
This session was taken just weeks after the Caldor fire threatened South Lake Tahoe, with smokey skies still visible in the background as the fire spread toward neighboring areas. Nearly two years have passed and like many communities, we live amongst the scars of fire that remind us of what could have been and how grateful we are for what is. We can reflect on where we were two years ago and that all we were hoping for was the safety of our firefighters, first responders and support crews and a town saved by their protection.
As we have settled back in to our daily doings, let’s remember the kindness that prevailed when we all returned, the care for our neighbors, and the differences set aside.
May those who visit give care for this area the way that we do and leave it as they found it.
Today and everyday, thank you to those who serve and protect with such dedication and the families and communities that support them! We’re grateful to have this place to continue to call home!
When your guest list oozes talent, pulling off a no stress backyard wedding with all the right details is as easy as pizza pie.
